Ministry of Labour issues alert on materials storage
The Ministry of Labour has issued an alert to companies who rely on using concrete blocks for bulk storage of materials.
This type of bulk storage can be found in construction yards, aggregate bays, landscaping operations, recycling centres, and other similar facilities. Concrete blocks are stacked into wall formations to corral loose materials such as sand or soil.
When materials are stored, loaded, or unloaded in these storage areas, workers may be exposed to hazards if the block walls shift or collapse. These same hazards are also present when workers are constructing the walls.
To learn more about the hazards, read the alert here.
